I would like to second Sprouts recommendation. I also had a negative experience at the Princeville. I took my wife for an anniversary present. Not only were we not upgraded, but we were given a room with two double beds to celebrate! In my opinion, they upgrade and emphasize past guests preferentially over SPG status.
I found management to be rather complacent and while they would act interested enough to get you to leave, they had little intent to truly solve the problem. Clearly the resort is beautiful and some/most of the employees are excellent. However, for a resort of this caliber, almost all of the employees (especially management) should be exceptional.
I doubt I will ever return.
