This is moot for me, but there are plenty of people with N-fare tickets that would stand to lose an upgrade (and miles, but I'm sure that can be fixed a posteriori).
Well tomorrow night at T-24 hours I should at least see if I'm on the upgrade wait list. currently 12 of 20 booked so I wasn't really surprised that I don't yet have my EUA but it would really suck to not get it. I'm 4 for the last 4 on EWR-LAS.
