Depends on exactly what you're looking for. IMO, the Renaissance Vinoy is one of the continental U.S.'s finest Marriott resorts. Downtown St. Petersburg is a gem along Tampa Bay, with much of the bayfront property devoted to a string of parks so that one can walk for miles along the bay. But the Vinoy, which is right on the bay, is not right on a beach, although a small beach is about a ten minute walk. The Vinoy is a historic property with two buildings. A beautifully renovated historic building and a connected newer modern building. There are wonderful views from many of the rooms, particularly bayfront rooms in the newer building, which are much larger than typical. The property has a large, resort type swimming pool, clay tennis courts, and its own, nearby 18 hole golf course.
There are three first class restaurants on property and downtown St. Pete has numerous top-notch restaurants. Much larger beaches are in nearby Gulfport, Ft. Desoto, and St. Pete Beach, but you will need a car to drive to those. If you like art, the spectacular new Dali Museum just opened, as did the Chihuly Museum, and the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Art is special. All are within a 15-20 minute walk. And, if you visit in mid-March, and are a baseball fan, there are about five major league teams in spring training, all within about a 45 minute drive or less, including Yankees, Phillies, Pirates, Tigers, and Blue-Jays.
