Wow. Storm has come & gone, now we've got the nasty leftovers. Currently 19F/-7C at the airport, winds steady at 25-30mph, gusting to 40-50mph (wind chills ranging from -4F/-20C to 1F/-17C).
DFW closed for the first time since 11 Sep 2001. Shut down for just shy of two hours to clear a runway. Now they have two clear. Most of the "normal" roads into the airport are not passable. If my flight still goes on Thursday, I'll need to get creative with my driving route.
Side story: I moved here on 8 Sep 2001. My first day of class was supposed to be 11 Sep 2001, but I had a registration issue (long story). So my first day was 12 Sep 2001. Certainly not your normal "new school" experience, given what had just happened. Anyways - everybody was commenting how "eery" and "quiet" it was. I didn't understand what they meant until a couple days later when flights resumed. We're right under 18L and 18R approach here on the west side of town. 17L & C approach is above the east side of town. I get to do a LOT of plane spotting every time I drive
At this point, I am expecting classes to be cancelled & everything to be closed tomorrow. Overnight low will be 6F/-14C, wind chills down to -13F/-25C. Which kills me, because if they cancel, it would have been perfectly fine for me to fly out to Orlando last night and miss this mess entirely.
We just don't have equipment nor the experience to deal with it here - the police are the only ones who have snow chains, and our road treatment consists of salt/chemicals (which don't work below 15F/-9C), and sand, which won't do squat. News outlets are giving a crash course in cold weather safety (cover/wrap external faucets, leave faucets at a slow drip, etc.), since temperatures hardly ever get this cold. The last time we dropped below 10F/-12C was the winter of 1995-96. Last time we got down to 6F/-14C (tonight's low) was 21 years ago, 1989-90.
Should be an interesting one. Will post pictures later.

I could! If I get around to it I will. It might be really short though… something like this:
1) I'm not going to wait for you. If you keep up, you can join me in the lounge. (incentivizing)
2) Make sure you get on the plane.
3) Don't visit me in F.
Lol.

They better (they'll get day rates for the days that they work, no pay if they don't). The company better, too. If our flight cancels, I'm expecting extra compensation for getting them out sooner.

One class Monday 14:00-16:50. Two on Wednesday, 14:00-16:50, 18:30-21:20. One online. Thursday to Monday AM is for MRing or work trips (sometimes both).

It's a sad truth… I figured most of the chill TSOs were like that, but never bothered asking. I feel for those TSOs. The ones who are all about the power trip and barking orders (this isn't 1930s Germany) can shove it, though.

So which page do you sign (I assume it's in one place so it's easy to find)? I'm going to try to take over that project on the dAArkside.

(When I linked our PNRs, the EXP AAgent asked me "would you like to upgrade him using your 500-mile upgrades?" I replied, "yeeaahhh...ummm...no thanks.") One time, we were on a 762 from JFK-SFO. We'd been on email during the first part of the flight, but I had to close my laptop during dinner service. He came up to my seat to ask me when I'd send him my updates to the presentation we were working on together. The FA in J kindly asked him to return to his cabin and tightly closed the curtain behind him.

Lol I got the same "so, do you want to upgrade [one of] them?", and I said "no" faster than I've ever said it before (those are saved for certain individuals and friends).
Love the story about your boss getting kicked out of J! Kinda hoping to do that at some point this season… I may get my chance if we all go straight to NAB (convention) in LAS from Daytona Beach.
