I've flown to/thru KEF many times, and I recall signs that say "no overnight sleeping for morning departures", or something to that effect. That is perhaps for originating passengers.
I'm wondering if in-transit passengers arriving at midnight can stay in the terminal when booked on a morning flight, or if a hotel (or some sort of accomidation) will be needed.
Excellent question. We had this experience last summer. You can remain in the terminal - in transit area - but believe it or not you are strictly not allowed to sleep. This is apparently to avoid youth hostel people and campers from spending their last night in the airport. Everything - stores and restaurants - are closed so this is not an ideal opton ! If I remember correctly the airport comes back to live at about 4 am.
