Thanks so much for all your very helpful feedback.

I have already booked our outbound LAX-LHR-EDI flights in Club World/Business class. Does anyone have recommendations of seats on BA282 LAX-LHR flight (747-400) where we can use the bassinet for our infant? By looking at SeatGuru it seems that rows 12, 13 & 17 below & 60 upper deck are bulkhead seats so we would have to be in one of those. It looks like row 17 might have a bit more room, but I don't know if that's right. On the other hand, 60 above seems nice since there are fewer seats around and we don't want to disturb others in case the baby is noisy. Anyone have seat input?

We are thinking of visiting the Netherlands as well, so our return would start from AMS. We could fly AMS-LGW-LHR-LAX (unfortunately we would have to transfer between airports in London), but I'm intrigued by the creative suggestions that have been proposed, such as using LAX as a stopover, and going on to Hawaii. Is there a limit to how long the "stopover" in LAX has to be? In other words, could we use the LAX-HNL flight a month after the AMS-LAX part?

I was surprised at the high (over $500 in my case for 2 club world tickets + infant on lap) cost I had to pay despite using miles. Is this mostly the fuel surcharge that BA charges? Last year I used miles in economy using United miles to Europe and didn't have this. It sounds like there is no way to avoid this since my miles are BA? I understand that the taxes are separate, but is the majority of the cost the fuel surcharge?
