BA's Business Class is far superior than AA's, if you stick with EDI and BA as your final destination keep in mind that you will not have to change terminal, which will be convenient for you as you are traveling with a baby, if you fly with AA to LHR and then connect to a BA flight you'll have to change Terminal, except if you connect to a BA flight going to Spain, Austria or Portugal.
All the other suggestions that other members wrote about fuel surcharges are correct.
