I stayed at the Diplomat two months ago. It is excellent. The towers should be finished soon.

Bal Harbor is overpriced and over-rated. The Biltmore in Coral Gables is the gem in South Florida. The Diplomat will be a different experience and is only 5 miles from my water ski club...
