kay_jay, if it's necessary, you can also combine AA flights and AS flights on the same award. But in any event, when you are ready to book, you must call AA, and pay AA's $20 telephone booking fee. (AAdvantage does not permit you to make partner award bookings online.)
There you go. That's what I thought. I wasn't able to use Aadvantage miles from the link golfingboy provided.

Is it $20/person or for the entire reservation consisting for 4 people?
I think it's $20 per ticket, so that would mean $20 per person. I would still check availability of the AS segments on the AS website. If you can't find "cheap seat" availability there, then AA won't be able to either.
