There is an old(ish) get-around if one really wants to use that Gold Card discount. The cheapest annual season ticket is for travel on the Isle of Wight, about £132. Comes with a Gold Card which can then be added to one's Oyster for the reductions as outlined at the TfL website.

It would be handy for those who use PAYG regularly, but doesn't do a lot for those of us who tend to buy Travelcards.

The inexpensive annual season ticket for IoW travel has been a not so hidden secret for a few years; the savings can be enough to make the purchase of the ticket worthwhile.
