unless RJ has a known, repeat history of operating in a way that air egypt or others don't, I see no sense in attacking and second-guessing this person for picking RJ for this trip and thinking that status might actually help in case of irrops, etc. - not to mention business-class check-in, execplat lounge access- thats a crime now? to try and leverage our hard earned status??
My point was much narrower and was not meant to express an opinion on the merits. A few people had questioned the genesis of the remark and I was merely responding to that. It does not seem unreasonable to me that the concept of choosing an airline based on status contains a number of factors, including both consideration of miles and of possible status-based assistance.
