I think that given the extraordinary circumstances and that the only reason most of us pick RJ is because of the status they should be more accommodating. Has anybody else from AA had a different luck dealing with RJ? We are really in a crunch and quite worried.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully you'll be able to take your holiday in Egypt once this mess settles down (though I wouldn't hold my breath!).

I would just say ask for a supervisor. Though RJ provides wonderful service in the air, their phone agents are not the most helpful. Remember to press the number for "Crown Class" even if you're in coach (as you're OW Emerald)-at least you won't be on hold for ages.

Worst case, you'll just have to eat up the loss (or make an insurance claim)
