onedog,

Every room I've been in at the Royal has had a fridge (college dorm sized - good for milk, etc).

I've had good luck with upgrades, even as a gold - though I've not stayed for 10 days straight which might limit the options for upgrades.

Request your room in the historic wing ahead of time. Definitely have the Platinum Concierge call the hotel and put in your request.

I've had three types of upgraded rooms - a large room with separate sofa sitting area and wet bar, a two room suite, and a large ocean front room with separate sitting area (with doors that closed it off)- essentially a two room suite. If your little one is still sleeping in a crib have the Platinum Concierge mention that too - the least expensive rooms are not large and a crib will make it tight. My recommendation is go for size rather than view in your upgrade. The largest suite I've had faced the garden and was a wonderful room with two entrances.

The only side of the hotel to avoid is the side facing the driveway - it can get noisy late at night and early in the morning.

The Royal doesn't have a lounge with breakfast but has free coffee and tea in the morning on each floor and at the poolside cafe (no coffee makers in the rooms).

I wish I was going soon - enjoy yourselves!
