I'll be trying out two of Starwood's Italian properties later this week - the Westin Excelsior in Florence and the St. Regis in Rome. I've always had supurb service at the Excelsior, hence my return visit. My prior visit to the Excelsior in Rome was very poor, thus the change of property. I'll report back more shortly
FWIW, I'm also trying the Hilton Sorrento Palace. Looks great on paper and has rave reviews from FTers, so I'm looking forward to it.
From a points/value perspective, I would've been of the school advocating Venice redemptions but Florence rates have skyrocketed lately. Just go with your gut and redeem where you feel you get the most value.
