I feel the same way about the NRT Hilton as Richard. I'd like to find a way to talk you out of staying there... All that faffing around with hotel buses between a boring place among the airport access highways and the little town by the airport - only to have to deal with more shuttles next day to get back to the airport to take a train into Tokyo. I'd find it much more comfortable to just step off the plane, jump on a train to Tokyo, check into a hotel and step outside for a bite to eat.
If you're looking for an inexpensive first night, there are plenty of good options - For example:
> Sutton Place Hotel near Ueno Station (40 mins from NRT by Keisei Skyliner)
> Hotel Metropolitan Marunouchi (60 mins from NRT by N'EX)

If you were to stay near Ueno or Tokyo station, you could just get in a cab next day to the Conrad. If you want to keep costs down, get a train to Shinbashi and walk.

Your train from Hakone will drop you at Shinjuku station. If you're weighed down with luggage, you can jump in a cab or the shuttle bus. If you're unencumbered, it's walkable.
