Honestly, I was not thinking about the cost of the phone (which I probably should start doing as my phone bill is always so high!). I just call if I need to call someone.

And in all honesty, I did not intend to come across as a better man or to state that someone is bad if they don't cancel the seat. There is really no requirement to do it so everyone decides for themselves. There are many things that people do and I don't and vice versa.

It's true. I did feel like I may have provided a seat for someone on an oversold flight (although, of course, I never knew for sure). And I was hoping that if someone else finds themselves in a similar situation, they will phone as well, and I may need a seat on a full flight on a very short notice (which also did happen once). The agent did thank me for phoning in and cancelling even though it was an 'I' fare ticket).
