It would have to be significantly more for this to make sense since SEA is an easier connection point than PDX by a fair amount. If there are equal or even slightly less SEA - DCA vs PDX - DCA customers it makes more sense to leave it SEA from an operational (irrops) and connecting traffic standpoint.
If there are tons of travelers flying this route that are coming from or going to one of those WA/OR cities then PDX could be viable... That allows AS to add another route at the same time still a feasible option for travelers in RDM/MFR/EUG/ALW/BLI/GEG/etc. Also, I am sure many bay area travelers would rather connect in PDX than SEA if the times work.
I don't think PDX-DCA has more O/D traffic than SEA-DCA, but was saying if AS can make more money on having one PDX-DCA and one SEA-DCA from premiums from O/D traffic or contracts [particularly gov't contracts] then why not since that is the only logical way around the slot issue...
