I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish, and I don't know anything about this specific property ...

When you book an award room, a standard award room is a standard room at the property.

There's no guarantee that the property will have standard rooms available for awards when you check in, in which case, you may not be able to use points for any part of your stay, so I would tend to think that it would be better to arrange an award stay or a split revenue/award stay via SPG ahead of time, if you really want to use points for some of the nights.

Even so, if you book and pay (revenue) for an upgraded room and then tack on 3 or 4 nights of an award stay, there's no guarantee you are going to get to stay in the upgraded room for your award nights.

And if you use this strategy, don't you wind uo loosing out on the 5th night free on award stays? I would think the best use of points here would be to reserve at least 5 nights using points, so you get the benefit of the 5th night free.
