Indeed. The main reason this happened in my college was when students' sleep/eat schedules were way out of sync with the cafeteria's opening hours - e.g. your body might want breakfast, lunch, and dinner at noon, 7pm, and midnight respectively. Same amount of food eaten in the end, just at different times. Cafeteria workers were sympathetic to this and allowed a reasonable amount of take-away.
