Just be prepared that you might have to pay $$$ for the remaining nite if it doesn't work.

I mean it's one thing to try at checkin to switch some paid nite to pts. Might be confusing to front deskthough espec if the person is new. (Just hope I wouldn't be behind you in line). But to try afterward..

Either way it could be argued you booked higher room type and then use points would violate principal of program of booking standard room. I mean if everyone did this SPG wouldnt be happy as this is just about abuse of program.

Besides for convenience I rather take care of everything else b4 I travel and let the chips fall as they may. It sounds like you plan to pay for 1st nite at higher level then use rest of nites for point. Why not just do that and hope they let you keep room for entire stay (as many hotels would) rather then deal with all the hassle of this scheme/scam?
