I have stayed at this property several times. I like it although the rooms are a little dated. I've been upgraded to ocean front oversized rooms but have also recieved rooms that didn't seem much of an upgrade. However, I attributed that to my very early checkin which has always been accomadated.
Safety: Do not under estimate the need to be extra safe in Brazil. I go often and can only tell you that with the exception of Jo'berg, no other second world cities are more dangerous than Sao Paulo and Rio. Rio is more of a pick pocket's and jewellery thief's haven where after a good scare with a knife renders you a little poorer, but in Sao Paulo its shoot first and take the wallet afterwards.
Do not walk the streets at night wearing anything tempting. Do not under any circumstance leave the main tourist areas unescorted, do not go into the favellas under any circumstance. Even locals have to be careful.
