While Sha Tin isn't the worst place in HK by any means, I wouldn't recommend staying out there if OP wants to get a quick look at HK during the fourteen hours total he/she has in town. I'd imagine he/she would want to get a look at some skyscrapers, neon lights, etc.
Ditto! Shatin does not offer the views nor glittering atmosphere say TST, Central, Causeway Bay, etc have. Other than passing by via the East Rail Line on the way to Shenzhen, the majority of tourists don't venture and hang out in Shatin. The neighborhood and surrounding area's business are mainly patronized by locals.
