When I was at MIA for the FL driveout, I saw at least one car that had TN plates. That in and of itself wouldn't be strange. What is strange is that this car was apparently never driven. It looks like it was purchased and registered in TN, but immediately shipped to Miami, or purchased in Miami but given TN plates.
What probably happened is they decommissioned a car in MIA, kept the TN plates, and used them on the new car; that way they avoid shipping license plates around. It's also quite possible that registering a car in TN is cheaper.
