My last piece of advice is to walk across LAX (through the garage) instead of taking the shuttle between terminals (remember that you need to re-clear security). It's a nice break as you'll be spending a lot of time on a plane!
Agree with walking across and also with checking out the Koru Club. The AC Maple Leaf Lounge is also nice, but not nearly as nice as the Koru Club. The one advantage the MLL has is being open all day, but as long as you are there after the noon opening time for the KC, you are set.

Define rude. I don't think they are particularly bad. In fact, the LAWA bus drivers (most of my experience is from Lot C, but still) always seem nice.

As for saving time, it can. By the time you walk over to the shuttle stop, wait for the shuttle, then get around the airport return loop over to T2, any person in any sort of shape with rolling luggage will be able to make it without issue.
