I just stayed at Grand Hyatt Taipei and I was offered to either settle in NTD or USD. I chose to settle in NTD based on the recommendation of this thread. I found the difference staggering. I was charged by my credit card USD459 vs USD 477 if I had settled in USD. This is 3%. My credit card charges me another 3%. So settling in USD could result in being charged twice the foreign transaction fee.
