Cross-stitch or sewing needles in carry-on at LHR?

Hopefully this is the right forum...

A friend of mine is flying out of LHR to New Zealand in a week or so with Malaysia Airlines. She likes doing cross-stitch (a form of embroidery) but is worried that she won't be able to take the needles on board in her carry-on luggage.

My understanding is that these needles are lke blunt sewing needles. Does anyone know if these will cause a problem at LHR? Does anyone have friends or relatives who have had such needles confiscated at LHR?

Thanks
