The problem is, if NZ checked you in at AKL for your SYD-BKK and because your AKL-SYD flight was late NZ would be to pay TG to rebook your fare. Same goes for your bags, if something happend to them on the SYD-BKK sector NZ would be at fault.
It all about projecting the airlines rights. If you buy a thought ticket the fares are higher and cover things like miscconnects & so on
I didnīt ask them to check me in for my onward flight (I had already done so online), I only asked to through check my luggage which isnīt an unreasonable expectation.
NZ and TG are both members of `*A, have an interline agreement etc., and I think itīs quite ridiculous having a policy like "we donīt do this whatsoever". This was the first time such a request was declined, whatever NZīs excuse is, I certainly wasnīt overly impressed with this part of their service.
