As noted elsewhere, the restaurant was a madhouse -- packed with people everywhere, maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of them local. Our tour guide, who lives in HCMC, said the place was coasting on its reputation. He said the food quality had recently gone down while the prices had gone up, and it was increasingly just for tourists.
My last visit was March 2010 but we had a great dinner and very reasonably priced at that time.

Too bad, did you walk the perimeter and check out first hand the various cooking stalls and order from them or did you just try to order from menu?
Last time, we actually ordered too much and our waiter politely suggested we reduce our order!
