(FR aren't unknown to play the trick themselves, but it's usually well in advance - I haven't heard of them doing it on the day, largely because it would make a mess of their sometimes complicated scheduling).

The schedule at EIN doesn't really allow for merging of the flights and IME the flights are already pretty full. There is only a morning and an evening flight with the aircraft doing the morning flight arriving the night before and the aircraft doing the evening flight arriving at EIN as the morning inbound. Seems like a complete waste of resources to me because you effectively have an aircraft sitting idle between 10:30 and 17:55 and then again from 20:55 to 07:30. Unless of course there is a maintenance base or the aircraft deadheads to RTM or ANR to perform a flight in-between. It does mean that the schedule is pretty reliable, however, EIN is prone to close quickly in reduced visibility.
FR usually diverts to NRN if EIN is closed, CityJet just cancels the flight.
