To report back on the info I have asked earlier:

One-way awards:

-are only valid on fully integrated airlines of the Miles and More;
-do not allow stopovers (when I asked for this among several agents, a few have said that the booking system does not allow them to split the award - whatever that means);
-changes/cancellations are permitted anytime before the start of the trip against a fee of 50 EUR, which can be waived in case of death or health problem. Taxes (both fuel and airport) can be refunded in full.
