I once bought a huge chunk (40k) of accelerator miles and still feel like a sucker for it, but at times it seems reasonable. I tend to value upgrades and free flights somewhere between what I paid and what the airlines think they're worth, so if 40k miles pays for part of a business ticket to Australia (retail value around $7k) then I feel like I've sort of made my money back.
