Funny that. When I last checked the KUL-MEL flight was re-timed to depart at 22:30 instead of 15:30. Don't remember the last time I received a hotel room for a non-overnight 7 hour flight re-time (presumably in Y, as you are looking for an upgrade)
Contractually, EK are only obliged to get you from KUL to MEL. It's a bummer that they've retimed their flights, but you'd need to travel on an EU airline to get any kind of compensation. If you're Gold, you'll have the lounge to hang out and shower/change in, if you need that
On the plus side, you at least arrive in MEL at a more civilised 9am instead of 2am, and you save on the first night's hotel in MEL
