When I called customer service for an explanation the Porter representative denied there was a price increase at all, and said that my experience must have been as a result of the seats on that particular flight selling quickly, triggering a price increase for the few remaining seats. However, the price increases appear to be 'across the board' rather than limited to a particular flight (at least in respect to Newark, which is all I checked).
Actually both reasons are correct.
All fares on all airlines have gone up and as with all airlines the fewer the seats (higher the demand) the higher the fare will go.
