I think of this story when I am sitting on the tarmac for an hour in Shanghai or sitting in the terminal of some minor Asian airport - just helps to put things into perspective.
I cam across this thread today.... bringing back memories of the JFK - MEL 'experience'. Time seemed to lose meaning, becoming a surreal experience. It was a weather-initiated issue, but I noted 12 subsequent screwups by Qantas during the event, culminating with delays in getting the baggage off in Melbourne. But I always like to put this into perspective, having read Shackleton's account of being marooned in Antarctica for a year....
