The big problem booking a codeshare on a UA flight is upgrades, but if that's not a concern to the person purchasing the ticket, then it makes sense to buy the codeshare. Revenue pax will also get lifetime miles credit, and continuing 1K members can use the BIS miles to help satisfy the quarterly 10K requirement (this year, anyway) for CR-1 accrual.
