One Reason Why I Don't Fly WN
In the late 90s, I got a call from a client telling me to be in Corpus Christi the next morning, as he is trying to buy a business at a bankruptcy court auction and needs me there.
I get to BWI maybe 30 minutes before the flight leaves (I think I was going BWI-BNA-HOU, overnighting in HOU and then flying on a separate ticket HOU-CRP early the next morning), and in those days that meant being stuck with a boarding pass in the last boarding group. I simply was unable to get to the airport any earlier than that. I've got my briefcase and an overnight garment bag with the suit I need for court. I get on the plane and I am faced with one of the nastiest FAs I've ever encountered (a male). He demands that I check one of my bags; I plead with him that my trip will be in vain if the airline loses my garment bag, and without losing a beat he tells me he'll have me removed from the flight if I don't immediately comply. I almost fainted when my bag came onto the belt at HOU.
WN just wore me out. I simply got tired of their shtick. Flying on them 45-60 minutes from BWI to places like BUF, BDL, PVD and ORF is the limit; I just couldn't fly on them on longer trips any more (and I used to be a regular on their BWI-MCI-OAK flights 10 years ago). They had a BWI-SJC for a while--going west wasn't bad, as it was about the last flight of the day, which was great for me, and was 50% full; but the eastbound flights were packed, and had families with screaming kids). Plus, on routes where they compete, DL was actually pricing their trips a few dollars less than WN (SLC and OAK have been two such routes).
