I had paid a stranger $1 to use their BlackBerry upon arrival into JFK back from Australia... I didn't have my US phone with me, ran out of coins for the pay phone... and didn't know where my folks were (who apparently were waiting at the wrong terminal)

I would have gladly paid a Euro to any stranger in Spain when I tried to find a computer terminal to revise a booking I made, but the "Telefonica" units similar to pay phones were too restrictive and didn't allow me to do what I needed online.

I had my Android phone with me at the airport in Spain, but the POS wouldn't work properly... This really annoyed me on the trip to Europe... I have found myself with friends who had European Android phones that were able to catch free WiFi (wee - fee as they call it in Spain and France) but the same channels wouldn't even show up on my phone!

On the other side of the coin, if someone asked me to borrow my laptop or smart phone to check their e-mail, I would probably say "no" too... unless she was really "HOT" I know, I'm a hypocrite.
