Sorry you haven't gotten an 'official' response from Marriott on this forum yet. You may never. It also may be similar to your experiences with CSO's on the phone as not every employee knows ALL of the answers. Your best bet is to take the answers you have received here and move forward knowing that the people who stay at Marriott most often probably know more collectively than any one CSR. Good Luck!

Based on more than a decade of bookings through marriott channels and a substantial part of that through marriott.com, i can confirm that any booking made through an official Marriott channel allows you to accrue points and nights, no matter if you book the plain rate, have to enter a rate code (or ask for it over the phone) or some other page or site enters that for you - as long as you book on an official marriott-channel you are OK points- and nights-wise. And from my experience of the past years this also applies to Marriott's best rate guarantee as this requires a booking through an official marriott channel to be processed.
