It's not a big deal if YOUR unsuitibly packed alcohol spills over your clothes as you have only yourself to blame for packing as such, but when the bottle breaks, and it seeps thru your bag into other people's valuables, they blame UA for your failure, and UA pays for it. People may be willing to risk it for themselves, but unless yours is the only bag in the pit/sorter system/staging areas, your desire to "don't ask, don't tell" has the impact of hurting not just yourself, but others, as well as UA. One shouldn't have the ability to waive their own rights when this action also puts other in jeopardy, kinda like a drunk driver, when he crashes doesn't always hit a tree with noone else in the car, but often he hurts others as well as himself.

Most people pack liquids suitably and, from a personal standpoint, I've never had a bottle break in transit. Unless someone has a bag with books and bottles only it's quite likely that any bottle that breaks will be soaked up by the clothes in the bag. I'd be very surprised if much liquid was to leak out of a bag and, further, be able to seep into other nearby bags.
