I have been in Myanmar 3 times and it is very high in my list of favourite countries in the world.
Yangon (Rangoon), Bagan and Mandalay are must-see places and an experience not to be missed. Myanmar is very safe and I never had a problem there. The people are wonderful, friendly and very welcoming to foreigners.
We didn't find much of a gay scene, however we had many wonderful evenings with locals who wanted to talk and socialize with foreigners.
