have a question about voluntary downgrades from paid F and award XF (which are treated as full fare F).

If one wants to voluntarily downgrade to travel with spouse (their fare is non-upgradable for whatever reason), can a paid F/XF person get a voluntary downgrade, and secondly can they get any credit for fare difference?

Thirdly, would it be wise to just swap seats with a stranger in Y or C? I'm not giving away an NF upgrade, but rather giving away my F/NF paid seat after all. And this question is related to international F, not domestic F, but curious about domestic F just the same.
