European regulators recognize that the number of people who want to bring down an airplane is a very small number (and very unlikely to be be people invited by the flight crew to visit the flight deck), unlike the rampant paranoia among USA-based airlines and regulators who treat every passenger as a potential hijacker (as the serving carts blocking the aisles when the flight deck door is opened attest). Cautious and vigilant is appropriate. Irrational paranoia, not so much.
