I strongly, strongly disagree with this. I would like to urge you to fly Singapore, Emirates, Swiss, Qatar, etc.
On Emirates, particularly on certain routes (LHR-DXB), the F cabin is sold out days ahead with premium, First Class paying passengers on the A380. Walk downstrais to the lower deck, and you'll notice a very empty coach cabin, espeically at the back.
Ditto for Singapore Airlines. LHR-SIN on the A380 suites, sells well, depending on the season. Before the recession, in 2006,
I personnally wanted to travel on Singapore Airlines to BKK, but could not find a single empty Business or First Class Seat to SIN, from NYC (5 days ahead). The clients wanted to fly, only Singapore Airlines, and didn't care how much it costs.
First Class or Business, full fare. I even asked FT for help. To no avail ! We could not get a seat, 5 days ahead!!!!See for yourself, people lamenting, wanting to get tickets to Asia on Singapore but couldn't because it was sold out in First and Business Class. People were using their PPS benefit for guaranteed Y space.
Waitlist - F and J cabins (what's going on?)
I flew AA and conneted with BA. I was Plat trAAsh back then. (Believe it or not)
That's my point. While the hardware is fantastic (have you been on the new 747-400 seats) in First and Business on United?. The new cabins are nice.
But the software -
i.e the United flight attendants leave more to be desired, driving away people who have the travel budgets to fly premium while on business.
In Asia/Europe/Middle east, it is more commmon, especially if you are an expat contractor/expat employment package, to have INTL F travel as part of your job benefit.
UNITED's Asia base crew is really good, but the problem is there are plenty of rotten US based apples out there.
