Just stayed at this property this weekend. Nothing short of "heavenly!!"
The drive up from Seattle went by faster thanks to
bagold's recommendation to take the truck route. (To give more details, it is exit 275 off of I-5 towards Blaine. Take 15N until it intersects Highway 1 West which turns into Highway 99N direct onto Whistler. All roads are well marked, especially 15.) As if the drive on I-5 isn't already picturesque enough, Hwy 99 puts it all to shame with jagged mountain tops rising out of the lakes and rivers... just stunning!
I requested and received a one-bedroom suite with a beautiful view and balcony. The decor was very Pacific NW, and the gas fireplace was a wonderful touch to the room. Staff was extremely friendly -- AND prompt! I had forgotten my toiletries and one call to "Service Express" had a whole, free washroom amenity kit delivered to my door in 5 minutes flat. Amazing.
We dined at LaRua (highly recommended) and enjoyed a spa treatment at Avello (Canadian for "expensive"

). The pool, gym, sauna, etc. were great facilities as well.
All-around a fabulous weekend. My only disappointment was the lack of a "welcome amenity" as a Gold Preferred member. I thought they had forgot about it when they switched my rooms, but was given a strange look when I asked about it later. Oh, well. Too bad I ripped open the bag of chips in the room thinking that was part of the welcome kit, only to uncover the price list a few chips later. Doh!
Also, no Starpoints for the spa treatments even though they appear on the hotel "folio" (Canadian for "show me the money")
Now... when can I go back?
