- Asked Purser to ask Captain while we were boarding, she came back and said, "He said NO."
- Captain was out chatting with the pax (UD), so I introduced myself, told him I was a wxguy, and asked if he might make it available. We had a nice discussion about why he (and others) object, then he said, "OK, I'll do it for you."
- It didn't come on until after deicing - just before T/O.
- It went off about 45 minutes later, just before entering Japan airspace.
- It came back about 45 minutes from touchdown in SFO.
Moral: It pays to ask; and maybe even twice
