I see from Australia to North America I need 30,000 plus copay. How much is the co pay, is it $250 or $500?
$500 from K class.

Yes, assuming you're using UA miles (which you said you unfortunately don't have). Using UA miles to upgrade a UA ticket covers every segment of the entire trip, origin-->destination. *A miles upgrades are per-segment, however (but would be irrelevant in this case as they're only valid for Y & B economy fares).

Yes. Though keep in mind, domestic "first" class is a significant step below international business class. Think recliner chairs with less pitch and no leg rests. The "first" moniker is a bit of a misnomer, at least as far as the confusion it can cause for foreign travelers.
