First, if a hotel "walks" you because there were no accomodations, generally that night should be free. I think most very frequent travellers have had at least one of these "bad comedy of disasters", where every remedy makes the situation only worse, all to a poor ending. While I'm not suggesting that you ask for anything specific, or that I would either, if the first night's charges were reversed, and enough starpoints were given for a mid-range property (for a future stay somewhere else), I would be more than satisfied.
