I don't think it's about "sketchy" hotels unless you consider hotels like InterContinental and Marriott and all the other major chains sketchy. I think they've pretty much all had hotel room attacks.

There was a recent attack at a Wyndham in New York where a hotel employee did know the woman was alone, made a copy of her room key, went in and attempted to rape her.

Overall though, despite that this stuff happens, I suspect there are easier and cheaper ways of deterring attacks. If it doesn't make a cost difference I'll keep putting "2" in the box though.
