I would partially disagree.. I think when you're flying short segments you USUALLY (definitely not always) either have no choice of airlines or pick the one where price is the best most of the time, whereas if you're flying say SEA-ORD you can fly pretty much any airline and many times Alaska is actually not the cheapest choice... so to me, when I pay $900 for a R/T coach seat on Alaska for a transcon (instead of a AA ticket for half the price) ONLY because I'm MVPG and want to maintain that.. that is loyalty
