It took them until early 2011 to figure this out?
Edit: reading the article, it doesnt say much about the longhaul fleet. Would be interesting to know what they plan here. The current fleet is 10 years now, and while the technical lifespan is easily 10 more years, it would need an interior update pretty soon.
The A340 are less effective than the A330's but they need them to operate on the far east Asia routes. I don't think they'll go for a 4-engine aircraft again, and with the current state of affairs, i really don't see them ordering 787's or A350's either.
I suspect they are going to fly with the current fleet until a possible takeover, in which case they will either use equipment from the other company or just reduce to being an intra-european company...
